Glanzichter

Reading through an old photo magazines at my friend's place, I have found a small article showing few outstanding nature and wildlife photos. I cannot recall whether it caught my attention because of the way the article was waved together or for the few photos it showed.  Although I do miss the competitive blood of the "I'd been there first" sort of guys, I set down and scroll through my image library to see if there is anything to challenge the competitors. The guideline offered many categories to choose from and for the 2011 Glanzlichter Internationale Photo Competition,  photographer could enter up to 24 photos.
I was however mostly interested at the wildlife and landscape categories. After some time was spent to collect the favorites, I submitted some of my recent work as well as a few of my older images taken during the era of negative films. In less then two weeks an email came claiming  a "proof of originality" of one of the submitted image. Thanks to Photoshop and its great capability to manipulate images a new rule has arrived. If an image is considered among finalists a "proof of its originality" is asked for by the juries. This must be a RAW file of such image or, in my case, the negative. The time frame given for the negative delivery was very short and unfair by the Glanzlichter stuff. This was a disappointment even though the only one in otherwise very detailed and well organized photo competition made by Germans. My image did not make it among the first ten and was put by the juries on the thirteen position. I was given free tickets and invitation for the opening evening. The event takes place in Fürstenfeldbruck, a small town near Munich. After all this was the beginning of spring. I did not go out shooting for quiet a bit and the view of close by Alps which might be accessed from Munich didn't allowed much of a sleep till I promised to my self to attend the opening night and to see some of the spectacular areas of the Bavarian Alps afterwards. I ended up at Neuschwanstein Castle area and promised my self to win at the next year Glanzlichter Photo Comp. May it be I have a bit of so called competitive blood after all. Or may it be I just like to take pictures and travel.

Other photo competitions I have enjoyed

There will be photos of the opening night added here soon. Leave me a note so I can inform you once it has been done.
